Essex Reminds Short-Term Rental Unit Owners to Renew

27 October 202528 October 2025

If you own a short-term rental property in the Town of Essex, get ready to renew that licence.

Current owners of a licenced Short-Term Rental Unit (STRU) are nearing the end of their first three-year term, so it’s time to renew.

“The STRU licence renewal process is part of the Town of Essex’s implemented system of zoning regulations and licensing to ensure STRU operators are continuing to follow municipal bylaws, and that the character of neighbourhoods is maintained,” read a release from the Town.

There are a couple of adjustments to the STRU bylaw. The Town has reduced the previous three-year term for a licence to one year. The annual licencing fee has been set at $500.

The fire inspection requirement remains the same. Inspections are required every three years. Any current licence holders who have not passed a fire inspection in the past three years must schedule and pass an updated inspection before they can renew.

Complete information about STRUs in the Town of Essex can be found on its official website.
