A Penetanguishene town staff report outlines what other municipalities have included in their short-term rental bylaws, such as requiring properties to register with the town and designating a responsible contact person who could respond to emergencies or contraventions of the bylaw.
It also suggests establishing a renter’s code of conduct, which would set out the roles and responsibilities of the renter including behavioural expectations, as well as giving the municipal staff the ability to inspect short-term rental properties, and revoke licences for noncompliance.https://4c00a03ea87bbeef21d4fb9bbe796d53.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html
The municipality could also implement a four per cent short-term rental tax on all units that are rented out for less than 30 days. The City of Barrie is one municipality already collecting such a tax.
Staff will be presenting information on the bylaw to the public in the spring in order to get feedback. According to Betty, the hope is to have a bylaw drafted by the summer.
