The new bylaw includes provisions for new zones, like the new theatre-district zone, the Grand Trunk anchor district zone, a second industrial zone that allows supportive uses, and an agricultural zone, as well as a new open-space zone that applies to known flood, erosion and natural heritage features.
Changes were also made to city provisions for parking, home occupations, group homes and drive-thrus.
Most notably, however, the new zoning bylaw includes provisions for the operation of short-term-rental accommodations in the city, which, according to the proposed new rules, would give residents the opportunity to rent out their entire homes for a maximum of 28 days consecutively and no more than 180 days annually, as long as they are the principal occupant.
