Owners or property managers of residential dwellings that provide temporary accommodations of up to 30 consecutive days will be required, starting Jan. 1, to have a licence from the town.
The fee bylaw updates the short-term rental accommodation licence fee for the first year to $800, as per a motion approved in late September.
That fee includes a one-time $300 registration fee for each short-term accommodation. Operators must also pay a $500 licencing fee in the first and subsequent years.
South Bruce Peninsula’s short-term rental accommodations program affects only residential dwellings and not motels, bed & breakfasts, campgrounds or cottage-rental companies that pay commercial taxes.
Short-term rentals must also participate in South Bruce Peninsula’s municipal accommodation tax (MAT) program, which will also begin Jan. 1.
