City Council is to consider slightly lower fines for those who violate new rules governing short-term rentals.
Almost a month after city council deferred a set fine structure for those who operate a short-term rental outside of the licensing structure, staff have amended the proposed fines by reducing the lowest fine amount fromĀ $250 to $180.
The new set fine amounts are meant to permit the city to enforce its new regulations without the need for costly court proceedings. Currently, people who violate municipal bylaws are issued with a summons to provincial offences court, where they could face a fine of between $500 and $10,000.
