Two people have been charged by the Travel Industry Council of Ontario for allegedly renting out short-term cottages they don’t own at Sherkston Shores.
A news release from TICO said Sherkston Trailers Inc. was being operated out of the east Port Colborne resort near the Fort Erie border.
Individuals convicted of offences relating to the act are subject to fines of up to $50,000 and/or prison terms of up to two years.
Corporations are subject to fines of up to $250,000.
Formed in 1997, TICO is a not-for-profit corporation wholly financed by Ontario-registered travel agents and wholesalers. It administers the Travel Industry Act and the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund.
