Tiny Township is preparing to defend recently approved official plan and zoning bylaw amendments related to short-term rental accommodations.
On Oct. 12, council was made aware of two appeals that had been filed with the Ontario Land Tribunal regarding the recent regulation changes.
One appeal was filed by Good Neighbours Tiny, a group actively opposing short-term rental accommodations in the municipality. The other was filed by the Tiny Township Association of responsible short-term rental owners.
Amendments to both the official plan and zoning bylaw were adopted by council on Aug. 31, along with a short-term rental licensing bylaw.
Residents both for and against short-term rentals voiced their opposition immediately after the amendments were approved. Some said it wasn’t enforceable and wouldn’t combat the problem, while others consider the regulations to be an overreach and say they are too restrictive.
All of the new regulations will remain in effect while the appeal process plays out.
